SOUTHEND CELEBRATES 101st WORLD ALZHEIMER'S DAY
AT THE GROSVENOR HOTEL
Carers from all over Essex and London will be getting together to celebrate World Alzheimer's Day on Friday 21st September.
This is the second year that this event has been hosted by the Grosvenor Hotel, Westcliff, and will be attended by Deputy Mayor, Councillor Gwen Horrigan, with her Consort, Mr Pat Horrigan; David Amess, MP; Ron Alexander from DIAL Southend and representatives from local charities, including dedicated Alzheimer's charity, Peaceful Place.
Carers and care staff have been invited to enjoy a free buffet lunch from 12noon-3pm, and share their experiences and issues with like-minded people in a disabled-friendly environment.
Pat, who nursed his mother for 12 years with dementia then Alzheimer's, said "My aim at the Grosvenor is to provide a place where people can get together or stay with their elderly or disabled relatives and friends - where everybody can enjoy themselves according to their needs.
Having been a carer for so long I understand the guilt that carers can feel if they are away from their loved ones, but at the Grosvenor we are equipped to look after even the most severely disabled people. This is why we are working with local Alzheimer's sufferers and their carers to enable them to share our facilities and benefit from our care", he concluded.
